TA learning from each other

TOday i learned that I can learn from the other TA's while teaching the first years! I just listened to what the other TA's would say and what I would have said etc...
Each of us may know more about somethings than others and we can teach eachother. I learned today that when you scale one side of a tooth(lingual or Facial) if you've already done the other, quickly sweep the other side because the debri may get pushed into the other side. I never really thought about that. I may have known but not really. So anyways I learned that today!!

no patients!

TOday I had no patients!!! then it turned into a lot of patient!! I ran a lot behind pretty much all day today. I put arestin in my MOM!!! Yay it was fun! it's pretty hard though in tight tissue. SOme came out. I'm excited to see how the tissue reacts. I hope it all grows back to the CEJ!!!!.... hey I can dream!! I also so a class 3 today!! Yay!! I thought she'd be a 1B.BUt perio knows how to hide!!! I feel pretty good about scaling. But at the same time I feel a little less confident in my ultra sonic. WEll that's all folks!

Hurry Hurry!

TOday my pt told me she needed to leave in fourty five minutes after the OD!! I hadn't done x-rays yet!! I actually got her x-rays done and cleaning, but I was a half hour over the time. I felt really bad. It would have been better to communicate to the PT that the appointment would likely take a few hours. I went pretty fast. I needed to take a retake, but she was in such a hurry and I wanted her to get some care. Next time she comes in I will retake that x-ray. SOmetimes I feel really confident with the ultra sonic and other times I don't. Today was one of those days. I just didn't feel that great about my angles into the contacts. I wish I could get more help, but it was so crazy today!! WEll that's that. Goal for next class is to have worked on my ultra sonic angles.

Last Thursday morning

I'd been calling my patients last night and this morning. I hadn't been able to get a hold of my pt's at all. So I brought Sam with me to school just in case I would need him to be my patient. LUckily he was there because my patient never showed up. WHich means my afternoon patient won't show up either. So I called my Dad ahead of time to tell him I'd probably need him to come in. Working on Sam was fun! He gave me input. Last time I cleaned his teeth I was in first year. He said I'd improved a lot and he thought I did a great job!! What a nice guy. I did move a lot more quickly. That finished off my requirements for 1B. Now I need to do 1A's and do exam's on a 3 and half of a 2. My goal is to find an adult patient for next week. WE have a lab in the morning so I'll need a patient for the afternoon.

Pod wrap PT centered goal

Today we did pt centered goal as the pod wrap. It was good to review what the criteria are for a goal. YOu need to be sure to have a sunject verb criteria and time frame. But don't forget the method for measuring the goal. It went pretty well. I had to hurry after the first part of the day. But the first years seemed to understand the criteria. We worked on disclosing and probing and exploring. I was disclosed twice. I was a pt as an example and one of the students needed a patient. It was a good learning experience. To see where i needed to focuse my brushing. And again to see where I'd missed even after brushing and flossing very well. Students seemed to do pretty well!!

WHy I missed TA

I missed TA today. I wasn't planning on it. I knew my husband was going into the hospital, but I didn't know he'd have so many complications. IT turned out that he had to stay in the hospital for three days. I didn't sleep at ALL!! I had to help him all night and day.

TA

The first day of clinic I thought was fun. I think I will like what we're doin. I will like the reviews. I also like to help people learn skills and tell them it will be okay!! They're so funny! I especially liked the review of the extra and intra structures we check. I had forgoten a lot of the names. I THink my goals will go pretty well. We haven't gotten around to probing. But I think it will go well. I think it helps the girls to talk out what they're doing. If it makes sense what they're doing it's not as easy to forget.
